The city of Malmö had a finished prestudy and plan program for a tramway network consisting of two lines. In the studies recommended lines and depot locations were recommended and analyzed. Malmö collaborated with Lund and Helsingborg in the planning process. 

Malmö instead chose to focus on improved bus solutions for the original suggested sites, and paused the planning for new tramways. There is still the possibility of converting the lines to tramways in the future. But focus has changed to the Öresundmetro, a light rail system that's currently being looked into. 

The map below shows the original two planned lines, one of which is currently being serviced by double articulated buses, and the other with conventional buses.
